P.E
P.E is a continuing and expanding exploration in to a slowly shifting
3D image and sound domain.
The gently moving images morph, disintegrate then re-configure,
drawing the viewer ever more deeply in to the depth of field.
The advanced method Martins has used to create the 3D effect does not require glasses or any other technology. Using the parallax effect and depth of field, the brain interprets the video as a 3D image. Miraculously, if you close one eye the illusion of 3D intensifies. We need both eyes to see in 3D so when we close one eye we see in 2D. The brain compensates for this with the memory of three-dimensional space, projecting depth on to the image so that little appears to change when you close one eye. Martins has made use of this phenomena to create absorbing 3D images using 2D video technology.
In tandem and in response to the images, Podmore has created a rich, deep and wide soundworld. As the images gently sway and mutate so does the music, at times at an imperceptibly tectonic pace. Through analogue and digital planes, field recordings, orchestras and complex synthesised continua appear and disappear with hallucinatory choreography.
The domain continues to expand and develop and can reconfigure at any time for any eventuality: a cinema, a gallery, a tablet or a phone.
P.E creates a continuum in which the only constant is Perpetual Evolution.
P.E is an immersive experience akin to experiencing the world from the deck of a ship, one-eye covered, or with Pirate Eyes.
P.E thrives on increments of change so small they are almost philosophical in nature, known to Germans as Philosophische Einheiten.
